New stories create new possibilities

Stories

This narrative inquiry explored the experiences of 10 people who have lived with persistent pain for over a year and now describe themselves as “doing better” or “living well with pain.” The story of each participant’s experience is told separately.

As you read the stories, I encourage you to take your time, pausing to reflect on each story. The narrative inquiry methodology values lived experience as a way of knowing, and the intention in exploring the participants’ experiences is not to lump them together into a single, definitive way of understanding the experience of personal recovery. There is space for different paths forward, and as you read the experiences of the participants, you will see exactly that.
